Keanu Reeves Spoofs Speed in Hilarious Car Chase on Jimmy Kimmel Live

Jack Traven is back — but his road rage isn’t. Keanu Reeves spoofed his 1994 blockbuster Speed during an appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live! on Wednesday, Oct. 7. The actor and late-night host went for a really slow (and pathetic!) car chase for a skit entitled “A Reasonable Speed.”

In the pre-taped clip, a sketchy Kimmel, 47 — with a neck tattoo and disastrous haircut — steals Reeves’ suitcase and runs away. The men then jump into their separate sports cars and take off for a, well, really safe drive.

“The only rules are the rules of the road,” a voiceover says in the skit. “The first movie ever produced by the California Highway Patrol.”

The car chase is so slow that even skateboarders are passing them on the street. Even more, they stop at red lights, and Kimmel takes the time to look both ways before driving through an intersection.

Reeves, 51, famously starred in the Jan de Bont-directed thriller with Sandra Bullock, Dennis Hopper, and Jeff Daniels. Bullock, 51, went on to film its 1997 sequel Speed 2: Cruise Control, which bombed at the box office.

“If you look back on my illustrious sequel work, nothing has proven successful,” the actress told Entertainment Tonight in July 2013. “A sequel is such a daunting thing, because you don’t want to lose the magic and the charm of the first one.”
